Thanks for writing about this, Kelly! I didn't know if it was possible to do both, so it's comforting to hear that others have this problem. Sometimes I feel like I have a "day job" again because I have to do all of my money-making assignments before I can start on a more interesting project like a novel or book idea.

My pleasure, Kelly. I agree it's easiest to write FIRST, but even if it's the last thing I do that day (besides go to bed), I'm always glad I did it. :)

Kelly --

Nice one. I make a note to write my fiction on Wednesdays and Saturdays --and then don't do it!

It's time to "find the time."

Thanks for being here today Kelly! I agree that writing FIRST is the way to ensure it gets done every day. Thanks for the great tips.

I can't think of any particular opening lines at the moment but I will say that I am out of the norm because even if the opening line doesn't grab me kicking and screaming and pull me in to it's depths I will still give the book a chance. If its still mindless drivel after the first chapter then its shelved ;-) I will admit that there have been books that schlep along at a slow, steady pace throughout the entire book enough to keep me reading hoping for a big finish only to leave me wanting when I flip that last page, but I am a person that spent the first 3 weeks of summer vacation between 6-7 grades blowing through our summer reading list only to move on to a set of Encyclopedia Britannica just because I was bored lol! I will read some pretty boring stuff when I am out of interesting reading material (medical encyclopedias, history books, you get the point...)! Still, I thank you for the writing tips because this is an issue I have been wrestling with for some time. I have over 7 chapters of a book written but started at kind of a midway point because I could not come up with a beginning that I liked so far. I figured I had already written too much to scrap the whole thing and perhaps if I continue with the story, the characters will tell me how to introduce them ;-) Thanks again!
